In the quiet Kootwijkerbroek, in the middle of the Veluwe, Charis lives with her husband Justin and their three young children in a beautifully renovated house full of character. A house from 1979 that they bought four years ago as a real do-it-yourself house, but is now unrecognizable. "Literally nothing has remained the same," says Charis with a big smile.
A HOUSE THAT LIVES
The passion is palpable when Charis talks about the renovation. Charis designed the entire interior herself and Justin did a lot himself with the help of a contractor. The house was completely stripped and rebuilt. New floors, doors, dormers, a kitchen and even a completely renovated basement. “We wanted to create openness, so we removed quite a few walls. Everything is much lighter and more spacious now.”
Charis is not only a homeowner, but also an interior influencer. What started in 2018 with sharing their first renovation on Instagram for friends and family in Germany, grew into a successful company and her own studio. “I work on interiors every day, it really is my passion. A DREAM CELLAR FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
The newest addition to their home is perhaps the most fun: the basement. “We have been working non-stop here for the past three months. The style of the entire interior? “I call it modern cottage: a mix of rural elements with a modern touch, lots of atmosphere and character. I love combining different styles. That way it never gets boring.” As far as Charis is concerned, a neutral interior does not have to be boring at all. “With neutral tones you can go in all directions. It stays beautiful for a long time, you don’t get tired of it quickly and it works surprisingly well with children.”
