In the green and tranquil village of Kapellen, just across the Belgian border, Rapinder and Stan live with their three children. Rapinder, born and raised in London, and Stan, with Dutch roots, have already had a wonderful journey. They moved from bustling Amsterdam to Rotterdam, but the need for peace and quiet proved too great. When they saw the opportunity to buy a more spacious house, they took the plunge. And it proved to be a great success, because in Kapellen they found the peace and quiet they so desperately craved.
New layout, new style
When they got the keys to their home in 2018, they were already very pleased with their furniture selection at Room108. "Someone came to measure everything and create a custom plan," says Rapinder. "We were so surprised by how much effort they put into it and how well they thought along with us." They then chose a dark green suede sofa: a real eye-catcher.
Now they've renovated the house again and felt it was time for a new interior. "This time we wanted a little less color and more tranquility in the house," explains Rapinder. After their previous positive experience with Room108, the decision was easy. Room108 Kalmthout They were warmly welcomed and given helpful advice on fabrics, cushions, and rugs. They immediately connected well with the owner, and there was a good match in terms of style. The final choices are slightly more neutral than before, but still very homey and cozy.
Rural and modern with a twist
Rapinder describes their interior style as "rustic and neutral, but with a modern twist." It's a unique blend of high-tech gadgets and calm, warm elements. This modern twist is clearly reflected in their choice of sofa. Oriane. A stylish, contemporary eye-catcher that immediately adds ambiance to the living room. They also find it important to maintain the rustic charm of the home. This is reflected, for example, in the combination of the steel doors with a country-style kitchen and a fireplace, which creates a warm atmosphere. Rapinder explains that she grew up in an Indonesian family and is accustomed to a lot of color in her home. Emanuelle Twist Armchair, in the fabric Bodega Blackberry, is also a nice addition to the rest of the calm and warm interior.
Favorite places in the house
By now, every family member has found their own favorite spot in the house. "Mine is the corner with the two armchairs. It's a nice place to sit together," says Rapinder. Armchair Elle, in the fabric Alpine Natural 01, is combined there with footstool bubble curve, creating a cozy and inviting corner. The children have their own room where they can play and relax on the Annabelle Triple Lazy, in the fabric Be Lovely Natural 01, the perfect lounge sofa for relaxing. Stan and Rapinder consciously chose not to use the same sofas throughout the house. By playing with styles and fabrics, while still choosing neutral and earthy colors, all the separate spaces have become a cohesive whole. And the sofas are not only beautiful but also very comfortable. "When the sofas arrived, I immediately told Stan: now it really feels like home," says Rapinder. A choice they are still incredibly happy with.
A new dream house
That their house now truly feels like home is remarkable, considering they were on the verge of selling it not so long ago. They missed too much, and the house no longer met their expectations. After much deliberation, they finally opted for a renovation. In hindsight, it turned out to be the best decision. Not only was it cheaper than moving, but it also exceeded all expectations. According to friends and family, "it's become a completely different house," says Rapinder. The atmosphere, the layout, and the new furniture make it feel like a house straight out of a magazine. Just a few final touches and accessories, and it'll be perfect.
