Cynthia proves that a minimalist interior can absolutely go hand in hand with playfulness, functionality, and family life. In this interview, she speaks candidly about her style, her choices, the search for the perfect sofa, and how her home constantly grows with her family.
A house full of harmony and warmth
Cynthia and her husband live with their three children (7, 5, and 1 year old) in a newly built home that was decorated from top to bottom by Cynthia. “I had a love for interior design ever since I was a child. As a little girl, I wanted to change my bedroom every week, much to my parents' frustration. Now that I am a mother myself, I can really let loose on my children's rooms and the rest of our house. In addition, I have started working as an interior designer and photographer, which brings things full circle.”
From the very beginning, one thing was central to the furnishing of their home: the children. The corner in the living room was therefore the one they immediately fell in love with, which has since become the play corner. You would hardly say so, though, as all the toys are neatly hidden behind cupboard doors, ensuring the living room always looks tidy. Although Cynthia prefers not to put a label on it, her style is often described as Japandi. “I like to call it warm minimalist myself.” The foundation of Cynthia’s interior always retains calm tones. The sofa, dining table, and kitchen truly form a cohesive whole. However, Cynthia does enjoy changing up accessories. “There are always things I change around the house. I love spending time picking out new accessories for the season.”
When interior enjoyment gets a platform
But how did all this come about? A few years ago, Cynthia had just had her second child when she decided to look for a creative outlet. She started, among other things, pimping up Ikea items, which she then shared on her Instagram account. @cynterior_designs. She also shared a lot about the highs and lows of building and furnishing a new-build home. Many people related to this, causing her follower count to grow rapidly. The sofa that completes the interior
And how did Cynthia end up at Room108? “We went to a lot of stores to gather inspiration, and I created endless Pinterest boards. With color swatches in my bag, I walked through all the showrooms to make sure everything would match perfectly.” She had been looking for a new sofa that fully met her wishes for quite some time. And is the Oriane comfortable? “Well, the children fight over the corner of the sofa every evening, and I think that says enough.” The whole family absolutely loves it, so the sofa isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
