Iris and her boyfriend have now been living in their beautifully renovated home in Deurne for exactly a year. Iris works as an ICU nurse at the hospital and grew up in nearby Liessel. Her boyfriend is from Deurne, so the decision to live here together was an easy one. “It really is a lovely village where there is always something to do,” Iris says enthusiastically. In this home tour, Iris explains how she created an interior that suits them perfectly, using warm tones, beautiful furniture, and surprising elements.
The transformation to a completely new home
A lot of work needed to be done on the house before it truly felt like home. The old kitchen was completely removed, new window frames were installed, and the entire floor was taken out to make way for underfloor heating and a new poured floor.
“We renovated the hall, the toilet, and the living room downstairs,” says Iris. They also shifted the layout around a bit. They replaced and relocated the old kitchen, making the space really feel like one cohesive unit.
Thanks to the combination of calm colors, modern materials, and a smart layout, the home feels light, spacious, and warm.
A mix of hotel chic and classic elements
Although people often describe her interior style as Japandi, Iris sees it slightly differently. “I feel like that’s really a trend,” she says with a laugh. “Personally, I really love classic elements.”
That combination of modern and classic is reflected throughout the interior. Iris describes her style as hotel chic, with both trendy and classic influences. Bronze and beige form the common thread throughout the home. From accessories to furniture and materials, warm tones subtly reappear everywhere. “Bronze and beige are truly dominant in our interior. Fortunately, my boyfriend also thinks these colors are very beautiful, so we are completely on the same page in that regard.”
A real eye-catcher in the house is the cast floor. “We think it is truly beautiful ourselves. Just a little different from a standard herringbone floor.” It is precisely these personal choices that give the home a unique look.
Iris states that she loves working on styling and interior design. Although she has never received formal training in this field, she relies entirely on her own intuition and creativity. She draws inspiration from sources including TikTok. “I am now fully immersed in an algorithm of girls giving interior design tips and showing items that are completely my style.” Additionally, she regularly visits thrift stores in search of unique items. It is precisely this combination of modern inspiration and personal finds that creates an interior that feels luxurious, yet remains warm and livable.
The search for the perfect sofa
The search for furniture turned out to be more difficult than expected. Together, Iris and her boyfriend visited countless furniture stores in Helmond and Eindhoven, but they couldn't find the perfect sofa anywhere. “We really saw hundreds of sofas, but it was always just not quite right,” says Iris. “Sometimes I liked a sofa, but the size wasn't quite right or the fabric was disappointing. We also didn't get the guidance we were looking for everywhere.”.
Through her parents and a colleague, Iris eventually ended up at Room108 Eindhoven. Together with her mother, she walked into the showroom and her eye immediately fell on one specific sofa. “I said right away: this is the one.‘
Not much later, she went back to the store with her boyfriend and chose the corner sofa. Emanuelle upholstered with fabric Cosmo Beige 170. The warm grey-brown shade, in particular, fit perfectly with the atmosphere they wanted to create in their home. “Above all, I didn’t want a sofa that was too light. This color felt right immediately.”
Personal guidance from start to finish
Besides the sofa, Iris and her boyfriend also found other items at Room108 that perfectly match their interior. The round dining table Nantes in color Espresso creates together with rug Piazza 2 in the form Stone for a warm base. Dining chairs surround the table. Xavi from Gusj upholstered with fabric Cayenne Shell 196. These stylish chairs are perfect for a long evening of dining with friends and family.
They found the personal advice during the shopping particularly valuable. “Frank helped us incredibly well,” says Iris. “What I especially liked was that he marked everything on our floor plan. We found it very difficult to estimate how big the sofa and table could be. He really thought along with us.” Even after placing the order, the contact remained pleasant and they were kept well informed.
The sofa as the favorite spot in the house
“When I still lived at home, the dining table was really my favorite place in the house, especially when we had guests,” says Iris. “And to be honest, we still sit at the table very often when friends come over for drinks or when my parents stay for dinner. But we do notice that we are moving towards the couch more and more often.”.
After a busy day, it is lovely to sink into the spacious lounge section of the sofa. “The big advantage, I think, is that it is designed for two people, so we often lie there together,” says Iris. The practical middle section is also a favorite. “It breaks up the sofa in a nice way and is really handy. We always put our glasses there.”.
The sofa has truly become their permanent spot in the house. And even better; Iris won this sofa with the monthly Room108 giveaway.
