Since September, Joyce has been living with her husband, two children aged 11 and 14, and their Labradoodle in their beautifully finished new-build home. In July, they received the keys to the shell-delivered house and the real work began: turning an empty base into a personal, stylish home.
The foundation for a warm and cozy home
Although everything was brand new, the home had to be furnished entirely to their taste. Joyce and her husband took care of the finishing touches, such as lowering the ceilings for built-in spotlights and installing the latest appliances, while thoughtfully furnishing every detail. Virtually all the furniture was purchased new, making the house not only feel modern but also offering a truly fresh start.
The result is a lively family home where, alongside school and work, there is plenty of room for socializing. As an avid football mom, Joyce is regularly seen on the sidelines, as her son plays for Heerenveen. At home, friends are often invited over for long evenings at the table or relaxed moments on the large corner sofa.
Hotel chic with Japandi accents
With the new house came the desire for an entirely new interior style. Joyce describes this as hotel chic with Japandi influences. Tranquility, luxurious materials, and natural tones form the basis, combined with subtle, warm details that make the whole cozy and homey.
Joyce designed the interior entirely herself. Her husband took on the larger jobs, while she focused on styling and decoration. “I change the cushions and accessories every season,” says Joyce. Through subtle changes in vases, throw pillows, and decoration, the interior remains lively, while the calm, luxurious base is preserved.
Joyce draws inspiration mainly from Pinterest and uses AI to visualize ideas. By combining photos of the space with new concepts, she gets a realistic picture of how something would look. That helps enormously with making choices.
In love with Room108
The search for furniture spontaneously led Joyce and her family to Room108. While strolling through the shopping center, they walked past the store and were immediately excited. Their eyes first fell on the dining set. In January 2025, the sofa was purchased from Room108 Amsterdam. Joyce wanted a light, comfortable sofa that was practical for a family and a dog. Drawing the layout in the store gave her confidence and confirmed that the size fit perfectly.
The sofa as the heart of the home
The Noëlle corner sofa forms the heart of the living room. Comfort is an absolute must for Joyce. She prefers to sit in the right-hand corner with a view of the garden, while her husband often chooses the other corner. Although the interior already feels completely her own, there are still things she wishes for. Accessories behind the sofa are still on the list, and the garden is the next project as well. For Joyce, this house is more than a new-build: it is a place where hotel-chic luxury, Japandi tranquility, and family life come together effortlessly.
